Hi folks… If you are busy, a single and reliable news source about climate trends and solutions is a useful thing.
Here are two I recommend:
The first is The Daily Climate, a publication of Environmental Health Sciences, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to driving science into public discussion and policy on environmental health issues, including climate change.
You can get your update even more easily by signing up to receive their daily summary via email.
The second news source I like is the weekly summary from Skeptical Science, prepared by John Hartz. A typical week is roughly seven stories per day… presented in a list format for quick perusal. It’s two clicks to get to the most recent weekly news summary, first to go to Skeptical Science, then to click to the current week’s news since a new link is added each week.
By the way: The broader mission of Skeptical Science is VERY interesting… they were founded in 2007 to list, myth by myth, all the bad information being put forward by the fossil fuel industry and their shills.
And then counter it, in patient and thorough detail, replacing one myth at a time with solid science… They describe their mission as “Explaining climate change science & rebutting global warming misinformation. Scientific skepticism is healthy. Scientists should always challenge themselves to improve their understanding. Yet this isn’t what happens with climate change denial. Skeptics vigorously criticise any evidence that supports man-made global warming and yet embrace any argument, op-ed, blog or study that purports to refute global warming.”
“This website gets skeptical about global warming skepticism. Do their arguments have any scientific basis? What does the peer reviewed scientific literature say?”
I have found Skeptical Science to be a reliable, easy to use source for the current best information science has about the emerging climate shift. A great way to get a solid weekly news summary, but also a great place to find – then counter – any particular denier “argument” with facts.

Not sure how to start saving the planet (civilization, really)… Start by remembering the saying: “Hope is a renewable resource.” Keep your morale up.
Then, our immediate practical first step becomes “Deeply know our personal Superpowers,” those skills over which we all have 100% control:
3) To save the planet, USE OUR VOICES and take advocacy seriously in all its many flavors: Never miss a vote and never stop influencing your government. Influence the vast business world by voting with your buying power… business listens when you speak its language. Set a solid example in your personal life. Tell friends what we must do. Finally, have a carefully-chosen annual donor program. All of these are ways you can use your voice.
No one can take your personal power away. Stay focussed on the list of substantive global warming solutions.
And at all times, cast aside the “learned-helplessness” that infects so much of modern life… the time is now for action.
Never give up.
