Changing our own habits first, to reduce greenhouse pollution, is the way most people start their path to global warming solutions.
It feels good to “live lightly on the land,” though based on my own experience I’d wager most do so from a moral sense, a sense of duty. That can carry over to a new form of eating, where one is mindful of compassionate food choices… which also double as a climate change solution
One of the organizations we support and follow is Mercy for Animals, a nonprofit advocating not only a vegetarian diet, but also cruelty-free meat production and advocacy. For a reasonable donation, you’ll also receive their excellent magazine, Compassionate Living, full of dietary tips as well as inspiring profiles of famous people who have made the switch to eating less meat or eating no meat at all.
The issue being mailed now features an interview with Grammy Award-winning musician Tony Kanal, of No Doubt and now, Dreamcar.
Why is eating less meat or no meat at all a good global warming solution?
At Project Drawdown points out, eating a plant-rich diet is the fourth most powerful global warming solution. If many participate, we can pull a whopping 66 gigatons of greenhouse gas pollution out of the atmosphere.
But what if you aren’t ready to go 100% vegan? Try the Meatless Mondays approach, giving up meat one or more days per week (full disclosure, this editor set a personal goal of eating meat no more than twice a week… you still get to enjoy it, just not all the freaking time!)

Not sure where to start saving the planet (civilization, really)? Our Thesis is: “Start by deeply knowing your three personal Superpowers: ”
1) To save the planet, CHANGE YOURSELF FIRST;
2) To save the planet, INVEST YOUR WORKING LIFE;
3) To save the planet, USE YOUR VOICE and take advocacy seriously! Never miss a vote and never, ever stop influencing your government and all businesses locally, at the state level, and at the national level.
It falls upon you to lead the way with substantive global warming solutions.
And in all cases and at all times, cast aside the learned-helplessness that infects so much of modern life… the time is now for climate change solutions. No one else is going to do your part for you… never give up.
