Nice investigative piece from this week’s Bloomberg… on how poorly prepared for climate adaptation Alaska currently is, given the much-warmer winters its economy now experiences.
But, not obviously, there are a BOATLOAD of new jobs coming in the climate adaptation field. Read between the lines, then get your job-creation hat on.
A good high level overview comes from the 2014 President’s State, Local, and Tribal Leaders Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience. Simply scroll through the chapter headings and you can get an idea of the truly massive numbers of jobs which will be created, whether in saving Alaska’s roads, bridges and harbor or saving Florida from flooding.
(These adaptation jobs are in addition to the 3.3 million US jobs we already see in the emerging field of advanced energy and energy efficiency, and is forecast to be at 4.0 million in the US by 2020.)
Read between the lines, then get your job-creation hat on.
