Tips for Finding Job Leads in the Emerging Advanced Energy Economy

In art or music, it pays to learn from the Masters… why reinvent paths a genius has already blazed for us?  So for job search, glean leads from lists others have already compiled in the advanced-energy sector:

  1. Trade associations, think tanks and advocacy organizations list their member companies.  For example, the list of donors and allies of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).  Or check out the American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC), which lists its member companies and member nonprofits and governmental organizations.  As well, the list of members of advocacy group, Advanced Energy Economy (AEE).
  2. Green journalists often write Top Ten or Top Twenty stories, about an advanced energy sector you may want to farm.  These happen especially as year-end wrap up stories.  But throughout the year also keep an eye on list-stories of who is getting venture capital funding, for example this story from Greentech Media (GTM).
  3. Investment funds targeting the advanced energy sector and socially-responsible companies will list their holdings.  For example, Shelton Green Alpha (ticker symbol NEXTX) and Portfolio 21 (PORTX)… put their symbol into a site like Schwab, Morningstar or Yahoo Finance and click to list out the fund’s holdings.  Interestingly, so many mainstream corporations have adopted sustainability principles that is possible to work in one and still be confident your company is Obi-Wan Kenobi and not Darth Vader… for example, this list of holdings from Green Century’s equity fund.
