Want to do your part? Start by doing a Green Good Turn daily

Recently, I went through a period of self-education about global warming.  It blew my mind.

Along the way I realized one solution all of us can do immediately is to get in the habit of doing a Green Good Turn daily.

It’s fun, plus it trains the brain to be resourceful and spot opportunities.

You actually learn a fresh way to see:  What sustainability looks like, in dozens of day-to-day situations.  Awesomely, one automatically starts to train oneself to make the best choice, in each situation.

I started keeping a log (to make sure I didn’t miss a day).  Unexpectedly, after a few weeks I could see patterns in the log:  One that emerged pretty quickly is that I gravitate toward the world of communication, and I began to understand I was becoming an influencer, really.  All this from simply doing a Green Good Turn daily!

That’s actually how Global Warming for Busy People came about… I realized there was a need for a simple platform where most “Ok, how can I get started?” questions could be asked and answered in one place.  Without people drowning in the mass of climate change information available on the web, which admittedly can be daunting.

I realized that it is particularly hard for folks that most available information is on the heavy “problem-set” side, whereas many of us simply want to get to the more positive “solution-set.”

I also began to enjoy and appreciate how interesting and invariably positive global warming solutions really are:

They create many solid, well-paying jobs.  They improve our quality of life.  They create healthier families.  And they regenerate the beauty of our farms, forests and oceans.

Heck, even electric cars are way, way more fun to drive.  (And electric cars outrun most gasoline cars hands down, something few would have imagined just five years ago.  Try one to see what I mean… they are scary fast!)

And all this grew out of doing a Green Good Turn daily.  What’s not to like?

But people are all different:  If YOU do a Green Good Turn daily, I predict that your natural talents and inclinations will lead you in a different direction.  That’s part of the fun of this… there is a lot of freedom involved.

GREAT!  Get started… I predict you will have fun and feel validated and empowered!

Not sure how to start saving the planet (civilization, really)…  Start by remembering Al Gore’s saying: “Hope is a renewable resource.”  Keep your morale up.

Then, our immediate practical first step becomes “Deeply know our personal Superpowers,” those skills over which we all have 100% control:

1) To save the planet, CHANGE OURSELVES FIRST;

2) To save the planet, INVEST OUR WORKING LIVES;

3) To save the planet, USE OUR VOICES and take advocacy seriously in all its many flavors: Never miss a vote and never stop influencing your government.  Influence the vast business world by voting with your buying power… business listens when you speak its language.  Set a solid example in your personal life.  Tell friends what we must do.  Finally, have a carefully-chosen annual donor program.  All of these are ways you can use your voice.

No one can take your personal power away.  Stay focussed on the list of substantive global warming solutions.

And at all times, cast aside the “learned-helplessness” that infects so much of modern life… the time is now for action.

Never give up.
